Using Paid Video Streaming Services on Your TV Box
The most popular paid streaming service today is Netflix, followed by Amazon Prime Video and Disney+. If you have signed up for such a service, you can use an appropriate app on the TV box to access your subscribed titles. Because these are paid services, the quality and performance of the video streams are generally quite good. However, each service provider can only have titles that they have the rights to. For example, you won’t find an original series developed by Amazon in the Netflix collection or vice versa.
Considerations
Consider the following factors when using a paid VOD streaming app:
Resolution
With only a couple of exceptions, most Android TV boxes available today don’t have the required digital rights certification to play the subscribed content in HD (720p and up). As a result, even if you have a premium HD subscription, you will still only be able to play up to 480p standard resolution.
Control Interface
Most of these apps are designed for touch screen devices such as smartphones and tablets, so they don’t work very well with the standard remote control of the TV box. It is recommended to add a pointing input device (such as a standard mouse, an air mouse remote control, or a touchpad keyboard) to the TV box in order to operate these apps.
